From the publisher:

Tournament poker is different from standard ring game poker. From a distance, it may look like a typical poker game, but there are many factors that can lead to proper strategy that is very different than what most players, (including good poker players), are familiar with.

Yet some people excel at tournament poker. This is not luck. These are players who have a good understanding of what the proper strategy adjustments are, and when they come into play. It is not a coincidence that the same players make it to the final table far more than their fair share.

This text is the first book ever written that explains tournament strategies which only a small number of players have mastered. It assumes you already know how to play poker well, but aren’t knowledgeable of tournament concepts and when and where to use them. Some of the ideas discussed include the effect of going broke, The Gap Concept, how chips change value, adjusting strategy because the stakes rise, all-in strategy, the last table, making deals, The "System," and much more.

Independent Expert Reviews

Tournament Poker for Advanced Players is the best book written on tournament poker. Everyone who has a serious interest in these events would be well advised to obtain a copy and study it carefully. While this is an excellent book, it is by no means the last word on the topic, and much more could have been said about many of the ideas in its pages. Nonetheless, I highly recommend this book. Though differing opinions do exist, many pros and advanced players contend that this is the single best book on tournament poker play. The book is roughly 250 pages in length and many argue it would have been even better if Sklansky had covered certain areas in greater depth. Of course, no one can cover every single aspect and angle of tournament poker. That being said, Sklansky does the best job anyone could ever hope to do in terms of covering a complex topic, giving detailed examples, and doing it in a way that is simple to understand(launchpoker.com)

In my opinion, the only tournament poker book worth reading. Just as The Theory of Poker taught theoretical concepts instead of how-to advice, this book does the same for tournaments. It’s geared towards teaching the reader how to adjust his normal ring-game strategy in a tournament, so a working knowledge of how to play your poker form of choice is required. The book evolves from basic to advanced strategies, and includes a section of hand quizzes where you can put your newfound knowledge to work. A must-read for serious tournament players.(winningonlinepoker.com)

The choice of a poker room is also an essential poker strategy. It is maybe even the most important one, as it can, in the long term, have a tremendous impact on your earnings.
